RedCrow Monthly Report May 2021
This month, the spark of what can be described as a Palestinian uprising started with the assault on dozens of Palestinians in an attempt to prevent them from gathering in the Damascus Gate square, and intensified following continued Israeli aggressions on Sheikh Jarrah residents, Al-Aqsa Mosque and lastly on the Gaza Strip.
With the start of the month of Ramadan in April, Israeli aggression in Jerusalem increased, and this month it rolled to include the West Bank, Palestinian cities inside Israeli-controlled areas, then the Gaza Strip. The spark of what can be described as a Palestinian uprising started with the assault on dozens of Palestinians in an attempt to prevent them from gathering in the Damascus Gate square, and intensified with Israeli policies of ethnic cleansing of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, amid the calls of Israeli extremist groups to "Kill the Arabs", and the repercussion of a widespread storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque in the last days of Ramadan. In a report released on April 27th, Human Rights Watch said that the Israeli authorities are committing the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution, based on “an overarching Israeli government policy to maintain the domination by Jewish Israelis over Palestinians and grave abuses committed against Palestinians living in the occupied territory, including East Jerusalem”. In response to these violations, Palestinian factions in Gaza launched rockets at Israeli settlements near Jerusalem and near the Strip.
